Last Wednesday, as negotiations for the trilogy match between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier were being finalized, the former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion proposed via Twitter that the UFC create a specialty event for the occasion, the McGregor Belt. McGregor suggested that the belt be “rose gold and rubies, think Patek rare” but was open to other ideas as well. And now fourth-ranked lightweight contender Michael Chandler wants to fight for it.
Chandler is currently scheduled to face Charles Oliveira for the vacant lightweight title at UFC 262 next month. Should Chandler win, and should McGregor win his rubber match fight with Poirier this summer, Chandler says the two can have a champion vs. champion bout at the end of the year.

This past Saturday, Leon Edwards faced Belal Muhammad in the main event of UFC Vegas 21. The bout was Edwards’ first since July of 2019 and things did not go according to plan. After a good opening stanza, in the second round Edwards poked Muhammad in the eye, ending the fight and resulting in a no-contest. It was an unfortunate outcome for Edwards who had title aspirations with a win, but top welterweight contender Colby Covington believes that Edwards actually was very lucky.
Speaking with
Submission Radio, Covington argued that Edwards should have been disqualified for the fight-ending eye poke instead of being gifted a no-contest.

“The Venezuelan Vixen” is none too pleased with Amanda Nunes right now.
On Saturday night, Nunes successfully defended her featherweight championship with a first-round drubbing of Megan Anderson. After the win, the question quickly turned to what would be next for the greatest female fighter of all-time as Nunes and the answer came in the form of Julianna Peña.
Peña is currently the sixth-ranked bantamweight in the world and was set to face Holly Holm at a Fight Night event on May 8. However, it was recently revealed that Holm would be forced to withdraw from that scheduled date, and following Nunes’ win, Peña called for a bantamweight title shot instead, something UFC President Dana White seemed amenable too. Unfortunately for Peña, Nunes was less enthused, saying she believed Peña needed another win to warrant a title shot. It was a response that Peña finds “ridiculous.”
