Krewe of Red Beans And Crescent Care Partner To Vaccinate New Orleans' Culture Bearers

The Krewe of Red Beans will launch an initiative to get New Orleans’ elderly culture bearers vaccinated. It’s called Culture > COVID and is an extension of the krewe’s program Feed the Second Line, which has been delivering boxes of local produce and prepared meals from local restaurants to elderly cultural fixtures since May. “It’s vital that we don’t lose any more culture bearers to COVID,” Red Beans krewe leader Devin De Wulf said. “We’ve already lost quite a few in 2020.” The program will bring the city’s elderly musicians and culture creators to Crescent Care Health Clinic to receive extra vaccine doses.

More Contagious Coronavirus Strain Found In Louisiana

Originally published on January 16, 2021 6:29 pm A more contagious mutation of the coronavirus has been detected in the greater New Orleans area, the Louisiana Department of Health confirmed Saturday. The variant is the same one that was first detected in the U.K. It was first identified in the United States in Denver. “It is urgent that everyone double down on the mitigation measures that we know are effective in reducing the spread of the virus,” Gov. John Bel Edwards said in a letter posted on gov.louisiana.gov. “It was always a matter of time before this new strain of the virus would reach Louisiana, which is why our state health experts have been monitoring cases and working with the CDC to prepare.”
