Letters: Signs salute
To the editor:
The GFWC Lincoln Woman’s Club would like to thank the many Logan County schools who supported our recent graduation sign fundraiser. Nine area schools ordered “Congratulations Graduate” signs to recognize and honor their newly graduated students. Working with Lincoln Printers, the signs were produced in each school’s colors and featured a photo of each student.
LWC members planted the Lincoln Community High School graduates signs on the Logan County Courthouse lawn on the day of the 2021 Senior Parade. Many of the new graduates enjoyed posing by the signs after the parade’s end before taking them home. Other schools displayed their signs on the school driveway for several days to honor their graduates before students took them home to their own yards. Some displayed the signs on the school lawn on graduation day while several schools’ staff delivered the signs personally to the graduates’ homes.

SPRINGFIELD Educators, students and families will face a host of new challenges in overcoming the learning loss that occurred over the past year of mostly remote learning as COVID-19 vaccines become more widely available and schools prepare to fully reopen for in-person learning.
To aid in that process, Gov. JB Pritzker announced the release of a new 180-page Learning Renewal Resource Guide to help school officials identify and address the most significant challenges they face.
Pritzker said Illinois school districts can expect to receive roughly $7 billion in federal funds to help them transition back to in-person learning, mainly through the recently-passed American Rescue Plan. About 90 percent of that money will come in the form of direct payments.
