Last year, the travel industry plummeted as the world struggled with the onset of a global pandemic, one that battered the economy and prompted uncertainty for businesses reliant on tourism dollars.  But with state parks, zoos, museums and other venues modifying COVID-19 safety restrictions and Gov. Mike DeWine announcing the ending of state health orders on June 2, there s a rising sense of optimism for national and state travel. Based on research fielded by Longwoods International on April 28, a Columbus-based market research consultancy that specializes in travel and tourism, found that 86% of American travelers plan to take a trip within the next six months.

View Comments Kings Island opens its season Saturday, May 15, and things are a little bit closer to normal this year. After COVID-19 restrictions and only 65 open days last summer, a return to the usual is welcome news for KI fans who were pent up during the pandemic and are itching to return to the Beast or brave a ride on Orion. Masks won’t be required outdoors, for starters. But there are still some coronavirus restrictions in place. Kings Island has new reopening protocols to help reduce the spread of germs and ensure everyone’s safety. So, before you head out to the park, here’s what you need to know:

If you don’t know who the plush guy taking the plunge is, it’s painter and TV personality Bob Ross who had a popular PBS show “The Joy of Painting”. Orion was voted 2020′s “Best New Amusement Park Attraction” by USA TODAY. It plunges riders down a 300-foot first drop, then over seven more hills and 5,321 feet of track at speeds up to 91 mph.
