Here is a sampling of travel destinations in the Buckeye State for those who are yearning for a day trip or weekend getaway. And although health orders have been lifted, we suggest calling ahead or checking websites for the latest safety guidelines in place.
THEME PARKS
Zoombezi Bay
The nearly 23-acre aqua park, located next to the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium in Delaware County, is open for the summer for those looking to enjoy attractions such as the Baboon Lagoon, Cyclone, SoundSurfer and others.
Last year, the travel industry plummeted as the world struggled with the onset of a global pandemic, one that battered the economy and prompted uncertainty for businesses reliant on tourism dollars.
But with state parks, zoos, museums and other venues modifying COVID-19 safety restrictions and Gov. Mike DeWine announcing the ending of state health orders on June 2, there s a rising sense of optimism for national and state travel.
Based on research fielded by Longwoods International on April 28, a Columbus-based market research consultancy that specializes in travel and tourism, found that 86% of American travelers plan to take a trip within the next six months.

Kings Island opens its season Saturday, May 15, and things are a little bit closer to normal this year. After COVID-19 restrictions and only 65 open days last summer, a return to the usual is welcome news for KI fans who were pent up during the pandemic and are itching to return to the Beast or brave a ride on Orion.

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - Kings Island doesnât open until May 15, but that didnât stop them from testing out their new Orion giga coaster with a few special guests.
If you donât know who the plush guy taking the plunge is, itâs painter and TV personality Bob Ross who had a popular PBS show âThe Joy of Paintingâ.
Orion was voted 2020â²s âBest New Amusement Park Attractionâ by USA TODAY. It plunges riders down a 300-foot first drop, then over seven more hills and 5,321 feet of track at speeds up to 91 mph.
