Leaders of the Janata Samajbadi Party-Nepal’s breakaway faction claimed they had to revolt against the party leadership as Deputy Prime Minister Upendra Yadav was running the party in an autocratic way.
Nepal Police on Wednesday fired water cannons and tear gas on protesters agitating against the United States-funded infrastructure programme, the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) in capital Kathmandu.
Cadres of various political parties staged a demonstration against the MCC outside the parliament in Kathmandu following which police used water cannons to disperse the crowd.
Another group affiliated with a communist political party burned the MCC Pact draft during the protest while chanting slogans against the compact.
