Warrington Schoolboys 1947/48 team picture | Warrington Guardian

Herbert was a member of this Warrington Schoolboys team who won the Lancashire Schools trophy in 1947-48. Herbert and Mather, the boy next to him in the photo, both played for Lancashire Schools. The boy named Orange was Joe Orange. It would be helpful for documenting purposes to get all the first names of the boys in the picture and to find out if any of the players are still with us. Historian Neil Ormston has calculated that when Herbert made his Wire debut aged 18 years and nine days he was the youngest to play for Warrington at that point.

Appeal: Search for missing trophies won by Warrington Wolves

Warrington Wolves chairman Sir Ossie Davies with the club s 1973/74 season trophy haul IT was an especially proud time to be chairman of Warrington Wolves. Owner Sir Ossie Davies, who rescued the club from going bust in the early 1970s, is seen above with all the silverware won by Alex Murphy s marvels in the 1973/74 season. The trophies, from left, are the Club Championship, the Challenge Cup, the Locker Cup and the Captain Morgan Trophy, while in front of the Challenge Cup is the Player s No6 Trophy. The whereabouts of two of these items of silverware is currently unknown and the Guardian is running an appeal to locate them.

League 1 winners' trophy is League Leaders Rose Bowl from 1970s

Players, coaches, directors of Warrington Wolves with the League Leaders Rose Bowl in 1972/73 A TROPHY won by Warrington Wolves in the 1970s and was whereabouts unknown has been found with the help of a Warrington Guardian appeal. Astonishingly, the League Leaders Rose Bowl – defunct for its original purpose after being presented to The Wire in 1972/73 – is not only in fine order but is the coveted prize in another competition. Lifelong Wire fan Neil Ormston, who has joined forces with the Guardian to seek out four missing pieces of silverware, received a tip after the trophy appeal was seen on Facebook.

Warrington Wolves trophy search includes Captain Morgan

Neil Ormston at Widnes Rugby Union Club with the two trophies he reunited that have been won by Warrington Wolves THE hunt is on for silverware won by Warrington Wolves in the 1970s but are currently whereabouts unknown. Warrington Guardian started an appeal online last week to find the Captain Morgan Trophy won in 1974, but it has become clear it is not the only prize off the radar from decades past. The locations of the Club Championship, also won by The Wire in 1973/74, and the League Leaders’ Rose Bowl won in 1972/73 are not known either. Warrington were the only winners of that particular Club Championship prize, and the Captain Morgan Trophy was only contested for the one season too.
