Tamiya re-releases classic R/C car, with an adult-sized twist

Damien O Carroll05:00, Apr 30 2021 Supplied The Tamiya Wild One was one of the most beloved toys of the 1980s. Now it is back, but a bit bigger. If, like me, you were a child of the 1980s, then there were a few essentials you had to have as a kid – a Walkman, a bunch of Star Wars figures, the odd Transformer and a BMX. And, of course, a Tamiya radio-controlled car. The original Tamiya Wild One was released in 1985 and became one of the brand’s most iconic models. Indeed, such was its popularity it was even re-released in 2012 to further acclaim.

The Little Car Company will hand-build electric, driveable versions of the Tamiya Wild One radio control car - and buyers can get a road legal kit that qualifies the vehicle as a quadricycle so it can be used legally on the road. The bonkers vehicles will cost from £6,000 in the UK, be capable of speeds that are sensible for road use and have up to 100 miles of range. Order books are set to open soon ahead of first deliveries next year.
