He said because of this, several religious clusters had been detected in the state and some were still active.
“When the movement control order 2.0 was enforced last year, the Negri Sembilan government decided to allow mosques and surau to stay open for daily as well as Friday prayers.
“However, the management committees were told that the number of worshippers allowed would be based on capacity, and that they will have to practise physical distancing and follow the other SOPs.
SEREMBAN: The Masjid Negeri here has been ordered to close for a week from Friday (May 14), after worshippers were found to have violated Covid-19 prevention standard operating procedures (SOPs).
The Negri Sembilan Islamic Affairs Department said some worshippers had failed to put on face masks, while there were others who did not bring their own prayer mats (sejadah) as required.
“We regret to inform that the mosque has been ordered to close for a week, as some worshippers had breached the SOPs.
“Some even refused to leave despite being told to do so after the number of worshippers exceeded 50, ” it said in a Facebook post.
SEREMBAN: The Negri Sembilan Islamic Affairs Department has rubbished claims that worshippers who turned up at a mosque here to perform Friday prayers had failed to follow Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOP).
State director Datuk Mohd Zaidi Ramli said the number of worshippers who had turned up at Masjid At-Taqwa in Paroi numbered less than 900 although the mosque could accommodate 3,000 people.
He said based on the SOP set by the state authorities, the mosque was allowed to take in 1,200 worshippers for Friday prayers. We understand that a clip has gone viral suggesting that the worshippers had failed to comply with the SOP under the movement control order. The number of worshippers who turned up were actually lower than the number allowed under the state SOPs.
