that plane. cnn s dann simon it in reno, nevada for us. dan, the ntsb asked about those photos at a news conference today. the death toll is now up to nine from three. what did investigators have o to say? reporter: no question, don, investigators will be looking at the tail of that aircraft. we have seen those pictures and it s pretty certain that at least at one point during the flight what s called the elevator lift tab dislodged from the plane. aviation experts have told me it would be very difficult to control the plane if, in fact, that occurred. crews here have been at the scene today going through the wreckage. they actually went over the lapse if you will to see where exactly that plane went and they did find something on the ground. i want you to listen now to the national transportation board investigator. we re aware of that. in fact, a component has been recovered in the area where that was observed. but i think it s critical at this point to know that ....

pushed the panic button probably several months ago, they just haven t telegraphed to us yet. you have to look no further than a poll out in virginia that shows president obama has a 62% disapproval rating with independents in that state. that is devastating to him. remember, virginia was one of the states that he flipped back in 2008 to win the presidency. not just virginia, north carolina is another state that they re concerned about. then go out west to colorado, another state that they flipped, as well, back in 2008. and then there s the two big states, kyra. there s ohio and there is florida, as well. these are all states that he needs to win in 2012 in order to win a second term. you know, kyra, a lot of people don t think the president has the fire in the belly any more. i was talking to a democratic strategist this morning and what he said to me was very simply, instead of when you re selling the whole idea of the jobs bill, don t say pass the bill, say, yes we ....

i m don lemon live in tampa, florida, for monday night s cnn gop tea party debate. a preview ahead but we start first with the 10th anniversary of 9/11. it s been a long day of deep emotions and quiet memories. america pauses to remember the attacks of 9/11 exactly ten years ago. the site of the 9/11 memorial opened today. fountains occupy the space where the twin towers once stood. cnn s poppy harlow has been there. i want to foe what the reaction is now that the memorial is open. is there some degree of comfort? reporter: i think there is, don, from all the people that i talk to today, those that lost their children, those that lost fathers, brothers, mothers, aunts and uncles. for a lot of them this was cathartic in a sense and this was closure and also rebirth for some of them. it was the first time this morning they were able to walk into the gates, the memorial with each and every one of the names of those who lost their life at 9/11 at the twin towers etched in ....

us. i m don lemon in tampa, florida, where preparations are under way right now for monday s cnn tea party republican debate. we begin with the tenth anniversary of 9/11. in the arms of the angels the nation, if not the entire world, pauses to mourn the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives ten years ago on the morning of september 11th. former presidents bush and clinton were in shanksville, pennsylvania, just this afternoon to dedicate a memorial to the heroic passengers of united airlines flight 93. their sacrifice on that extraordinary day, no doubt saved countless other lives. president obama has declared this weekend national days of prayer and remembrance. he and the first lady spent some time today at arlington national cemetery. they visited a section where service members killed in iraq and afghanistan are buried. just a short distance away at the pentagon, former president bush and his wife laid a wreath of flowers at a site known as the 9/11 stone. 18 ....
