179 members of state-run art troupes found violating terms of employment

By Park Ji-won Up to 179 members of six state-run art troupes have been found to be in violation of regulations prohibiting them from having a second job, according to data. According to the inspection by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, 69 were from the National Gugak Center, 52 from the Korean National Ballet, 44 from the National Theater of Korea, 11 from the Korean Symphony Orchestra, two from the Seoul Performing Arts Company and one from the National Chorus of Korea. In general, those working for the state-run organizations are not allowed to have a side job or engage in contracted work unless it is approved by the company since they are deemed as public servants.

National Chorus of Korea to sing popular Korean poems Posted : 2021-01-26 09:06 By Park Ji-won Poster for Poetic Colors Courtesy of NCK The National Chorus of Korea (NCK) will hold an online concert called Poetic Colors, in which the chorus will sing songs composed from a series of popular Korean poems. In the concert, which will be released on the NCK s channel on Naver TV, Feb. 10, the chorus will show the stage from different angles using versatile lighting, to entertain viewers amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Nine songs adopted from famous Korean poems such as Kim Yeong-nang s An Endless River Flows and Kim So-wol s Mother, Sister, will be performed by the NCK and other artists such as soprano Im Sun-hae, bass-baritone Gil Byeong-min and cellist Mun Tae-guk. The songs were composed by in-house and famous composers such as Stephen Paulus, a Grammy winning American composer.

Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra to live stream Beethoven's Symphony No. 9

By Park Ji-won The Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra (SPO) will perform Beethoven s Choral Symphony No. 9 in D minor, Op. 125 at the Lotte Concert Hall to mark the 250th anniversary of the composer s birth, Sunday. The concert will be live streamed. The 65-minute performance subtitled 2020 Beethoven Ode to Joy, arranged by Jaakko Kuusisto, composer, conductor, and violinist, will be presented with a variety of artists ― conductor Markus Stenz, bass Park Jong-min, mezzo-soprano Lee A-kyeong, soprano Park Hye-sang, tenor Mario Bahg and the National Chorus of Korea ― and will viewable on SPO s YouTube channel, NaverTV, and Seoul City s YouTube channel for free from 5 p.m.
