The suspension of the planned strike was announced by the National Deputy President of the Union, Mr Najeem Yasin while briefing newsmen at the early hours of Thursday in Kano. The labour union recalled that the State government had deducted the workers’ March salary. According to him, the decision to suspend the strike and peaceful protest followed the agreement reached between the Kano State Government and the organised labour on Wednesday.

x The Kano State council of NLC had issued a seven-day ultimatum for the government to revert the March salary to N30,000 minimum wage, after which three days warning strike would be declared. But the Kano State Government declared that it will not be able to pay the N30,000 minimum wage for the month of March, citing dwindling monthly FAAC allocation. NLC national president Comrade Ayuba Waba, who disclosed the withdrawal of the strike while addressing journalists early morning Thursday, declared the new development was reached after an emergency meeting held with four delegations of the state government led by head of service, Binta Lawan Ahmed.

The NLC Deputy National President, Najeem Yasin announced the suspension of the strike on Wednesday night at a joint news conference with other labour movement and affiliates in Kano after a meeting with the State government team led by the Head of Civil Service, Hajia Binta Lawan Ahmed. The NLC had last week given a seven-day ultimatum to the state government to refund and stop what it described as “illegal deduction” from civil servant salaries or face industrial action.
