A coram of Chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava and expert member Dr A Senthi Vel determined that the report raised a substantial issue regarding compliance of environmental norms and took cognisance of the same.
The Tribunal observed that despite repeated queries, counsel for MoEF&CC could not enlist a single step taken by the Ministry for effective control of air pollution.
These technologies include Flue Gas Desulfurisation (FGD) and Circulating Fluidised Bed Combustion (CFBC). While FGD is used to remove sulphur compounds from emissions of coal-based power plants, CFBC brings down the level of pollutants in exhaust emissions.
