Johannesburg mayor Mpho Phalatse has asked Eskom to grant the metro a three-day reprieve from stage 5 load-shedding as City Power teams struggle to keep up with faults.

City Power said it will embark on a three-week programme to patrol and clear electricity line servitudes of any encroaching objects, which have been blamed for the frequent power outages experienced in the Greenstone area, northeast of Johannesburg.
In a statement, the City of Johannesburg said the MMC for environment and infrastructure services department (EISD), Mpho Moerane, paid a visit to City Power’s Sebenza and Westfield substations in Edenvale and Modderfontein in Kempton Park on Thursday, on a fact-finding mission to get to the bottom of what caused the outages.
