A bill that could help the Boone County Commission address subpar rental housing is waiting to be sent to Gov. Mike Parson s desk.
While the bill s language was agreed to by the Missouri House and Senate, the governor has yet to see it after the state s legislative session ended Friday. We are hopeful that the Governor will sign and we will finally have the opportunity to promulgate regulations here in Boone County that will protect some of our most vulnerable individuals, Boone County District II Commissioner Janet Thompson wrote in an email.
Columbia already has a rental property ordinance, but that only applies to those within the city limits. There are people with a Columbia address who live outside the city limits, so they do not have the same protections, said Columbia Neighborhood Services Manager Leigh Kottwitz.
