NGCP trip-offs cause massive brownouts in Negros Oriental

DUMAGUETE CITY - Knocked off leaves, branches, and other vegetation problems at the Amlan-Siaton 69kV transmission line of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) in Negros Oriental caused widespread unscheduled power interruptions on Tuesday. Advisories from the Negros Oriental Electric Cooperative II (NORECO II), whose area of coverage was the most affected, said three power outages caused by trip-offs of the Amlan-Siaton 69kV line were reported today. The first was at 6:52 a.m. with power restored at 7:16 a.m.; the second, at 10:20 until 10:40 a.m.; and at 12:25 to 1:53 p.m. The areas affected during the first two outages were from Calo, San Jose town to Sibulan, Dumaguete City, Valencia, Bacong, Dauin, Zamboanguita and Siaton. The third brownout, however, has not restored power to Zamboanguita and Siaton as NGCP's Dauin-Siaton 69kV transmission line remains unenergized, the electric cooperative said. This is the third time in a week that Negros Oriental experien ....

Massive brownouts hit Negros, Panay islands

DUMAGUETE CITY- Several areas in Negros and Panay islands on Tuesday experienced lengthy brownouts after power plants in Negros Oriental and Iloilo "tripped", the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) said. The brownouts started at around 5:24 a.m. in many areas serviced by different distribution utilities or electric cooperatives, that are dependent on NGCP for their power supply. NGCP's first advisory said the power interruptions were caused by Under Frequency Relay activation, meaning the automatic shedding of load when a low supply of power threatens the power system stability. Michelle Visera, NGCP's corporate communications officer for Negros Island, in an interview with the Philippine News Agency, said those affected by the power interruptions were areas serviced by the Negros Oriental Electric Cooperative I (NORECO I), Negros Oriental Electric Cooperative II (NORECO II), Central Negros Electric Cooperative, Inc. (CENECO), Northern Negros Electric ....
