Grand Island s undeveloped land provides a home to a wide variety of wildlife, said Michelle Lockett, who has been coordinating events for the Grand Island Nature Alliance, a group formed a year ago.
On Oct. 13, eighth graders from Veronica Connor Middle School could be seen walking down the multipurpose trail on the West River. They were carrying garbage bags and collecting litter from the trail, as well as from the area between the trail and the river.
The Grand Island Nature Alliance invites families to an event from 2-4 p.m. Sept. 23 at the Nike Base Community Center that celebrates the world of monarch butterflies and milkweed.
The Grand Island Nature Alliance presents an interactive native plant event from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Friday, May 19, at the Grand Island Community Center on the Nike Base, 3278 Whitehaven Road.
