Town will again be without strike trio Nicky Forster, Adam Proudlock and Sam Parkin when they take on Southampton at St Mary s on Saturday. New signing Alan Lee again looks likely to operate as a lone out-and-out attacker.
Town boss Jim Magilton is sweating on four of the players who helped the Blues to a 2-0 victory over Reading at the weekend as he prepares his squad for Wednesday s trip to Southampton (KO 7.45pm). Gareth McAuley, Ben Thatcher, Alan Quinn and Jon Walters are all doubts.
Town have included both Sylvain Legwinski and Jon Macken in the squad for Saturday s home game with Southampton. The duo could make their debuts having joined the Blues prior to the transfer window, Legwinski on a two-year deal and Macken on loan until January.
Balkestein Set to Start Against Saints Tuesday, 3rd Mar 2009 09:13
Dutchman Pim Balkestein looks set to return to the Town starting line-up this evening when the Blues take on Southampton at Portman Road (KO 7.45pm). Full-back Moritz Volz has joined Danny Haynes and Ben Thatcher on the sidelines, but Iván Campo is back in the squad.
Volz limped off at Preston on Saturday with a recurrence of his groin injury and was replaced at right-back by Alex Bruce, with Balkestein coming off the bench to join Gareth McAuley at centre-half.
Boss Jim Magilton seems likely to start with the former Heerenveen youngster alongside skipper McAuley with Bruce at right-back and David Wright on the left.
