COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - The Muscogee County School Board voted to approve several items on its agenda , including a new engineering magnet program and a few items related to coronavirus funding.
Downtown Elementary Magnet Academy will be revamping its magnet program from Core Knowledge, serving a limited number of students into an entire elementary magnet school focusing on engineering. The Muscogee County School Board voted to approve the proposal Tuesday night.
This year. we know that two police officers have been arrested. the two officers involved. we also know, we heard this from the colonel of the state police a few days ago, these are the two police officers now facing charges resulting in the death of the little boy. we heard from the colonel who had said that there was one of the officers on the scene who also had a body cam. let s talk more with the colonel from the louisiana state police, michael edmonson is actually with us now out of marksville, louisiana, as you re going the see in this shot. he s also still being wired up and miked up so that we can have this conversation. still so many questions, colonel. thank you so much for being with us. so many questions about what happened here. and we realize that the investigation is ongoing. two officers who are now facing charges that resulted in the death of this 6-year-old, but
Ago. i know him. he s a good man. he s got a good department. i ve had to arrest my own officers before. that s just the unfortunate side of it. i think the integrity of this badge look, the public, they allow us to privilege to wear this badge. it s not a right. certainly when that badge is tarnished, we ve got to move quickly. that s my believe as superintendent. you ve got to move quick on something like that. that s what we ve done here. this is a good community. that s a good police department. they will get through this. they will grow from this. and we just all got to get better at what we do. and i think that we show the public we do stuff like that that, you know, we re not just trying to take care of our own. we re trying to take care of our situati situation. we look beyond who it is, what happened, and those that did those things have got to be held accountable no matter who they are. colonel michael edmonson, thank you so much for being with us. appreciate it. than
Comments and what have they found? reporter: fredricka, they re learning a lot about his past and what may have led him here to lafayette a couple of days ago to commit this awful crime and they re starting to believe that this attack was meticulously planned. listen to what colonel michael edmonson from the state police department told me. we ve been continuing to go through his rant and raves that he had on the internet. he was on several different blog sites, several areas where several groups had a synopsis of some of the stuff that he was saying. we saw a lot of writings about people trying to make rhyme or reason of what he did right here so we re continuing to go through his diary making comments. here s one thing that s perfectly clear, this man was certainly of sound mind because, you know what, he wrote it down. he said he s coming to this movie theater at 7:15 on thursday night. what we do believe is that he was in other theaters lake charles, lafayette and baton rouge,
