A Maui Economic Opportunity-led effort to collect long-sleeve shirts for farmworkers to protect them from pesticide and heat exposure netted 257 shirts from March 24 to 31 as part of an Association of Farmworker Opportunity Program national drive.
Maui Economic Opportunity distributed 45 refurbished laptops, provided by AT&T and the nonprofit Human-I-T, to families in need on Maui and Moloka‘i last month.
“Uncle” Nelson Umemoto, a longtime Moloka‘i driver who is credited with “creating an inviting and comfortable atmosphere on his bus,” was named Maui Economic Opportunity Employee of the Month.
