Impact women. we need to educate managers and supervisors. reporter: it took a while for lorraine to realize what she was feeling was menopause. i had migraines every day so intense that i could hardly focus and concentrate, and then there was the mood swings. reporter: she this doctor, an ob/gyn at washington university in st. louis, one of a growing number of physicians focused on individualized menopause care. the number of certified menopause practitioners has increased 70% in the past ten years with the potential to almost double by the end of this year. the average age of menopause in this country is 51, which means that a woman will spend a half to a third of her life menopausal. this notion that i hear all too often that women should just grin and bear it does everyone a disservice. reporter: and symptoms can be even more severe for african american women.
