fixes to allow the senate 20 move forward. things like the billionaire tax and the way they want to pay for it. but also it s speakingtous about things like paid leave as well as medicare and medicaid expansion. he s said he s concerned about adding to the programs when he already sees the existing ones as insolvent. he s been a little bit vague in terms of what he can support, and at this point in the negotiations when everything centers around someone like senator joe manchin, it s important to keep in mind where he stands and lawmakers in the building are trying to do in a that. the other thing that s important as we move forward and some lawmakers have cautioned this, specifically on the progressive side. they re willing to take as much time as they need to get this right. these are unofficial deadlines. that was true two weeks ago the last time we did this will they or won t they vote on the bipartisan bill? but it s true now. yes, it would be great for the president to be able to
we just don t have a deal actually hashed out. everything has to fully come together. there has to be an agreement on everything before anything moves forward. we just really don t have full details that is being put in front of the progressive caucus to deliberate and make sure we have all of our members on board. we know that there are some senators right now that are raising some concern in regards to some of the climate provisions. we know that senator bernie sanders is worried about some of the medicare expansion. we know that there are some representatives on our side that are worried about what s happening to the child tax credit. so there s still a lot of things that are being talked about, but i do agree that we all share the optimism that majority leader schumer was just expressing, that things are moving along
leave and vouchers for medicare and medicaid expansion. democrats are also talking about a new tax on billionaires to pay for it all. i m talking to congresswoman ilhan omar. thank you for being back on the show. thank you for having me. tell us, is our understanding of the major sticking points the understanding you have as well? does it come down to paid family leave and the vouchers for medicare and medicaid expansion? no, i think there is still a lot more that s being discussed. we have to make sure that there is a deal that s being made that will get the blessing of those two senators in the senate, and then also have the blessing of the progressive caucus, because we can t afford to lose any members on this. so can you get specific, then? you say there is a lot more on the table. what specifically are becoming or have been sticking points for you in the caucus here?
that was already in negotiation down from 12 weeks. he s also not yet supportive of $800 of vouchers for medicare recipients to get dental care. that was also in negotiation coming down from what senator sanders wants, which is medical coverage for hearing, medical dental and vision. senator schumer told us, told reporters in the last hour that there are three to four final sticking points, and those seem to be three of the four. now, that s just on the revenue side. how you re going to pay for it, or that s how you re going to spend the money. as far as how you re going to pay for it, there is that issue as well. senator sinema doesn t want to support the wealthy, so they suspect it is something long championed into this bill which is to tax the extremely wealthy.
