The revised International Code of Medical Ethics unites doctors under one global medical ethos

The World Medical Association’s revised International Code of Medical Ethics offers a core set of ethical norms for all doctors worldwide to follow, write Ramin W Parsa-Parsi , Raanan Gillon , and Urban Wiesing Increasing global mobility, and the growing plurality in society that comes with it, has an undeniable effect on medical practice. The likelihood of patients consulting doctors with different cultural backgrounds, religions, or secular values has increased substantially. This raises several essential questions for the medical profession around whether patients can expect a core set of ethical norms from all doctors regardless of their location, backgrounds, and beliefs or whether patients have to accept that ethical norms will differ depending on where they are in the world. We firmly believe that the medical profession across the world needs common answers to such questions and that there should be (and is) a core set of ethical norms for the world’s doctors. Increased vascular inflammation on PET/CT in psoriatic arthritis patients in comparison with controls

Background Patients with psoriatic arthritis (PsA) have an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, possibly due to a chronic inflammatory state. Objectives The main objective of this study was to investigate the difference in vascular inflammation, measured with 18-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/CT (PET/CT), in PsA patients and controls. We conducted a secondary analysis to assess the association between clinical parameters of disease activity with vascular inflammation in PsA. Methods We included a total of 75 PsA patients with active peripheral arthritis (defined as ≥2 tender and swollen joints) from an ongoing clinical trial (EudraCT 2017-003900-28) and a retrospective group of 40 controls diagnosed with melanoma, without distant metastases and not receiving immunotherapy. The main outcome measure was aortic vascular inflammation which was measured on PET/CT scans using target-to-background ratios. Clinical disease activity in PsA was assessed with joint count

Sociodemographic and socioeconomic disparities in COVID-19 vaccine uptake in Belgium: a nationwide record linkage study

Methods We conducted a cross-sectional analysis of the uptake of a first COVID-19 vaccine dose among 5 342 110 adults (≥18 years) in Belgium on 31 August 2021. We integrated data from four national data sources: the Belgian vaccine register (vaccination status), COVID-19 Healthdata (laboratory test results), DEMOBEL (sociodemographic/socioeconomic data) and the Common Base Register for HealthCare Actors (individuals licensed to practice a healthcare profession in Belgium). We used multivariable logistic regression analysis for identifying characteristics associated with not having obtained a first COVID-19 vaccine dose in Belgium and for each of its three regions (Flanders, Br
