At Colorado’s rural edges, vaccines help assisted living homes crack open the doors
Bingo is back in the dining room. In-person visits have returned, too, though with masks and plexiglass. The Haven Assisted Living Facility s residents are even planning a field trip for a private movie screening once they ve all gotten their second round of covid-19 vaccines.
Such changes are small but meaningful to residents in the Hayden, Colorado, long-term care home, and they re due mostly to the arrival of the vaccine.
While the vaccine rollout has hit snags across the U.S., including in many large urban areas, some rural counties with their smaller populations and well-connected communities have gotten creative about getting the doses out quickly to long-term care facilities. They are circumventing bogged-down Walgreens and CVS, the pharmacy chains contracted for the campaign, and instead are inoculating their older residents with the counties shares of doses.

It had been another week of constant work, no sleep and feeling beaten down by the job when Meagan Hillman decided to take a break from her duties as public health director for two rural Colorado counties to do what she was trained to do but rarely can when bogged down in bureaucratic chores: take care of patients.
City Council Conducts Video-Zoom Meeting
The council adopted Resolution No. 20-04-01 as well as No. 20-04-02 pertaining to measures taken to deal with the Coronavirus pandemic. The first resolution allows for the conduct of all city public meetings to be held by electronic means as a way of maintaining safe, social distancing. The second resolution is a Declaration of State of Emergency in the City of Lamar due to COVID-19. The declaration ensures that all units of government maintain the ability and option to any emergency funding from FEMA or other aid that would become available.
Lance Clark took his oath of office as City Attorney, administered by Judge Lane Porter. Clark is replacing Garth Nieschburg and is employed at the Steerman Law Offices in Lamar.
