Will Supreme Court Nullify Gbarpulu Senatorial Election Results?

Senatorial candidate, Gbarpolu District #1 Rep. Alfred Koiwood
Justices of the Supreme Court will gather in a joint chamber on today, January 8, 2021 to hear arguments into the merit and demerit of a complaint of election irregularities and fraud filed by the Senatorial Candidate of the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), Alfred Koiwood, who is the current the Representative of District #1 in Gbarpolu County.
Rep. Koiwood complained against the National Election Commission’s ( NEC) handling of the December 8, 2020 special senatorial election in the county and asked the court to place a stay order on the January 7, re-run of election in the Nomodatonau Town, where it was alleged that the Paramount Chief of the town, McGill Wleh, with support from some residents, seized ballot boxes and halted the election from taking place due to what he called “Illegal attempts” by aliens to vote in that part of the country. ....

Botoe Kanneh Projected to Win Gbarpolu Senate Race After Rerun

Botoe Kanneh, Senatorial Candidate, Gbarpolu County
Senatorial candidate Botoe Kanneh has been projected to win Gbarpolu County as polling watchers complete counting of ballot papers from the rerun election in Nomodatanau.
Kanneh, before the rerun election in Gbarpolu County electoral district 3, had been in the lead with 4,767 electoral votes, while her closest rival, Rep. Alfred Koiwood of the ruling Coalition for Democracy Change, had 4,281 votes from the 139 polling places out 144, according to data from the National Election Commission.
Though Kanneh’s lead against Rep. Koiwood has been slightly reduced, she is still expected to beat Rep. Koiwood, whose votes in the January 7, 2021 re-run were apparently not sufficient to surpass the only female candidate in the race. Preliminary results from Nomodatanau shows that Kanneh, who ran as an independent candidate, obtained a total of 188 votes while Koiwood got 217.  ....

Women's Rights Groups Mount Pressure to Probe Gbarpolu Electoral Violence

By Hannah N. Geterminah
Some women’s right advocacy organizations have called on President George M. Weah to exercise the political will to investigate violent circumstances surrounding the leading senatorial candidate in Gbarpolu County, Madam Botoe Kanneh, and to ensure that she participates freely in the re-run electoral process in Nomodatonau without intimidation or threat from the traditional Poro Master otherwise referred to as “Country Devil.”
The senatorial election in Gbarpolu County is at a standstill and there is a need for re-run because a town chief of the town allegedly seized the ballot boxes and the poro master was ordered to come to town.  Whenever the poro master comes to the town, women and males who are non-members are forced to be locked up in their houses as the master and members of the poro society implement whatever they are in the town for.  This means that the female candidate, Kanneh Gbotoe, will not access the ballot boxes alre ....

Gbarpolu Senate Election in Limbo

As Immigration Service arrest arrest several with multiple Voter cards, others
The National Elections Commission (NEC) yesterday fell short of conducting the Special Senatorial Election (SSE) in Normor Datando Town, Gbarpolu County District #3 on ground that the safety of its staff is yet to be guaranteed.
It can be recalled that on December 8 the paramount chief of Nomodatonau District, McGill Wleh, with support from his fellow residents, seized ballot boxes and prevented the election from going due to what he called ‘illegal attempts by aliens to vote’ in that part of the country.
NEC Chairperson Davidetta Browne Lansanah, said up to the time of her Commission’s press conference yesterday, the whereabouts of one of the 15 temporary election staffs was not known, being a sign of insecurity in the area for the holding of elections. ....
