Glasgow heritage projects given funding to survive Covid pandemic

Funding boost for city s cash-strapped historic groups GLASGOW heritage projects have been boosted by a cash injection to help historic buildings reopen and continue their services. Among the recipients of a new round of funding from Historic Environment Scotland are the Glasgow Women’s Library in Bridgeton, Govan Heritage Trust and the Maryhill Burgh Halls Trust. The money comes in two “streams” - one to allow premises to reopen in line with public health guidelines in light of the pandemic, the other funds jobs or training opportunities provided by organisations. All three organisations have been forced to curb their usual activities and have seen their incomes fall as a result of coronavirus restrictions.

The burghs’ responsibilities included policing, public health, registration, licensing and building applications. Some had their own heraldic crests and mottos. Each had public buildings in which to transact business and manage life in t
