North Marshall Dog park takes honors
El Cajon’s North Marshall Dog Park was recently named Project of the Year by the American Public Works Association. The park, next to the El Cajon animal shelter at 1373 N. Marshall Ave., was finished last year and offers a space for gatherings and activities. It features an off-leash dog area with dog bone-shaped benches, a picnic area, and landscaping. The park began as way to provide a multiple-use space for neighboring residents and businesses, as there were no parks or green spaces within walking distance of the nearby communities. Being near the shelter, the park also provides a space for prospective owners to bond with pets. City engineers designed and oversaw construction while the city’s Public Works Department and Urban Corps members, some from El Cajon, built the park.
