NZ's electric buses prompt forced Uyghur labour concerns

Other New Zealand departments and councils have also used buses from CRRC. Wellington s Metlink service relies on dozens of electric buses purchased from CRRC by operator NZ Bus, KiwiRail recently ordered 10 new diesel locomotives from the company (topping up 63 it has bought since 2009) and the Government s Low Emission Vehicles Contestable Fund has subsidised the purchase of at least one CRRC bus for Tranzit to the tune of $370,000. AUCKLAND TRANSPORT A mock-up prepared for a 2018 Auckland Transport document shows the plan to electrify the CityLINK buses. Forced labour concerns The deployment of the buses in Auckland and Wellington and KiwiRail s decision to purchase 10 more trains came after the Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI) found CRRC was one of 82 companies potentially directly or indirectly benefiting from the use of Uyghur workers outside Xinjiang through abusive labour transfer programmes .

Auckland ferry incident 'could have been much worse', emails show

David White/Stuff Divers were required to free the ferry’s propeller of the lines. Subsequent emails between Auckland Transport officials showed the incident could have easily gone another way. “If the crew member had become caught in the line, there would likely have been a very different outcome to being stood down for a week,” ferry services manager Gareth Willis said. DAVID WHITE/STUFF Ferry services at Northcote Point are sometimes cancelled due to the wharf’s exposed location. That sentiment was echoed by a Fullers360 marine manager who told Auckland Transport the incident “could have been much worse”.

Covid-19: Family seen taking face masks out of train station bin Thu, 22 Apr 2021, 3:45PM People seen taking used masks from public rubbish bins before boarding a train has sparked concerns among health leaders.
