URBANA, Iowa - Investigators now say a murder-suicide led to the death of a married couple on New Year’s Day in Benton County.
Urbana Police say Gary Jensen told a 911 operator he shot and killed his wife. Officers then found both Jensen and his wife dead at their residence on East Main Street.
An autopsy has now determined that Jenson murdered his wife and then committed suicide.
Gary Jenson was 59-years-old.Margaret Jensen was 54.
The State Medical Examiner’s Office in Ankeny conducted the autopsy.
The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, Benton County Sheriff’s Office, and Benton County Attorney’s Office all assisted in the investigation.

Authorities investigating a New Year’s Day double-shooting in Urbana have ruled the deaths a murder-suicide.
According to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, Urbana police received a 911 call from 59-year-old Garry Jensen stating that he had shot and killed his wife.
Officers who responded to the home at 300 Main Street Friday found the body of 54-year-old Margaret Jensen. They also discovered the body of Garry Jensen. Both died of apparent gunshot wounds.
The DCI said autopsies conducted by the State Medical Examiner confirmed that the cause of Margaret Jensen’s death was homicide. Garry Jensen’s death was ruled a suicide.

Investigators have deterined a New Year’s Day double-shooting in the eastern Iowa town of Urbana was a murder-suicide.
According to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, Urbana police received a 911 call from 59-year-old Garry Jensen stating that he had shot and killed his wife. Officers who responded to the Main Street home Friday found the body of 54-year-old Margaret Jensen. They also discovered the body of Garry Jensen.
Both died of apparent gunshot wounds. The DCI says autopsies conducted by the State Medical Examiner confirmed that the cause of Margaret Jensen’s death was a homicide. Garry Jensen’s death was ruled a suicide.
