Total War: Warhammer 3 is an upcoming strategy game being developed by Creative Assembly. The game features six new factions, including the icy kingdom of Kislev and the eastern empire of Cathay. To flesh out these factions, Creative Assembly is working closely with the Warhammer creators at Games Workshop. Total War: Warhammer 3 from Sega and Creative Assembly introduces six new factions. While the Chaos Gods Khorne, Nurgle, Slaanesh and Tzeentch are well represented in the tabletop figures and lore created by Games Workshop, the other factions of Kislev and Cathay are much more limited in presence. There s some Kislev figures and worldbuilding to pull from but nowhere near enough to provide a complete roster and faction without some heavy work on Creative Assembly s part. Meanwhile, Cathay has long been shrouded in myth, with only the tiniest bits of information on this mysterious empire. Given the Twarhammer trilogy’s long-stated aim of reproducing pretty much every faction and scrap of land in the Warhammer Fantasy Battle setting, there were only so many places it could go. True to expectations, then, after Twarhammer 2 spread the map westwards to the lizards-’n’-elves carnage of pretend South America, this time we’re going to be headed East, to the region of Warhammer’s Old World setting centred around pretend China, aka Cathay, and pretend Russia, aka Kislev.
