Hello, Mane Landers. I hope you all are having a great week so far. I’ve been busy catching up with friends and preparing to move next week. Let’s get this Wednesday started with today’s links.
Former Orlando City forward Dom Dwyer signed with Toronto FC through the 2022 MLS season. The 30-year-old has scored 83 goals in his MLS career. During his time with the Lions, Dwyer played in 67 MLS matches across four seasons and scored 24 goals. However, his time in Orlando last season was limited to just two appearances due to a knee injury and he entered free agency during the off-season. Dwyer could play against his old team as soon as May 22 when Toronto and Orlando face off in Exploria Stadium. Toronto FC General Manager Ali Curtis expressed his thoughts on Dwyer’s addition to the offense.
Kemar Lawrence in action for the Reggae Boyz.
Toronto FC has signed experienced Jamaican international left-back Kemar Lawrence from Belgian side Anderlecht. The deal, which sees the Jamaican returning to the US Major League Soccer (MLS), will run through 2024.
The Canadian club announced the signing on Friday.
It has been reported that Toronto FC paid a $600,000 transfer fee to Anderlecht for Lawrence, who was sold by the New York Red Bulls for $1.2 million in January of 2020.
The 28-year-old previously spent five seasons with Red Bulls, establishing himself as one of the best left-backs in the league and earning an MLS Best XI selection in 2018 and an MLS All-Star selection the same year under current Toronto FC head coach Chris Armas.
To understand the magnitude of the acquisition, you have to understand Soteldo. The diminutive 23-year-old playmaker is a full international with Venezuela and one of South America s most promising players.
He s already been named to a Copa Libertadores Best XI, all while wearing the iconic No.10 Santos shirt once worn by the legendary Pele.
So, how did Toronto FC sign a legitimate star for a fraction of his original price? I think your reputation, a lot of times, precedes you and word of mouth is massive and very influential, Toronto FC General Manager Ali Curtis tells
Goal. I think it took some time to have certain players pave the way but that that viral messaging, that word of mouth, has gotten out that playing at some of these clubs in Major League Soccer is not only a place where you can develop but also a place where you can thrive.
