Three weeks after the devastating fire ripped through Lahaina on August 8, 2023, officials have released a joint statement pledging to keep Hawaii safe.
Three weeks after the devastation of Lahaina, crews are still working to recover and to strengthen defenses against windstorms and wildfires. With high winds and severe drought conditions continuing to threaten parts of Maui, the trio vowed to work together to minimize the risk of wildfire and ensure public safety.
“Right now the priority is we’re saving lives, preventing human suffering and mitigating great property loss,” said Major General Kenneth S. Hara of the HawaiĘ»i State Department of Defense.
