Man admits stealing Purity bread, items - Barbados Today

A 44-year-old man who scaled a gate and stole bread to feed his drug habit has been jailed for six months.Chief Magistrate Ian Weekes sentenced Allan Decurtis Junior Crichlow, of no fixed place of abode, on Monday after he pleaded guilty to three offences.Crichlow admitted to stealing 12 bars of chocolates and three boxes of wax paper belonging to Savings Plus Supermarket Inc on December 30, 2021.He entered the store with a trolley and was observed by security. He was seen taking up the items and placing them in a bag that he was carrying. As he made his way to the exit he was stopped by security and told of the observation but left the establishment with the items. ....

'Respect due' - Barbados Today

A senior judicial officer says Barbados’ magistracy is not only short of personnel but is being treated with utter disregard and disrespect.“I call it institutionalised disrespect,” Chief Magistrate Ian Weekes declared on Thursday as he explained that the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Courts were only able to hear urgent matters and new charges as staff were “scotching” at the Supreme Court.The No. 1 District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court over which Weekes presides and the District ‘A’ Traffic Court were relocated to the Supreme Court Complex on Whitepark Road in April last year, with a weekly sitting beginning at 1 p.m.; while the staff in the No. 2 District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court work from a room above the District ‘D’ Police Station at Cane Garden, St Thomas.The three courts were reportedly moved from their original location due to unsafe working conditions following the ashfall from the eruption of St Vincent and the Grenadines’ La Soufrière volcano, amo ....

Shawayne Deshawn Williams made his first appearance on drug charges in the District “A” Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
