When Dr. Diana McGill was approached by President Cady Short-Thompson and learned she was a top prospect to become Northern Kentucky University’s next provost, the feelings that followed mirrored those McGill had felt at several other junctures in her career. McGill earned her PhD in biochemistry from Harvard University in 1991 and envisioned herself leading.
Some students living on campus received a rattling Christmas-day email from housing stating their residence hall had experienced flooding from burst water pipes. On the days leading up to Dec. 25, Northern Kentucky experienced single digit temperatures, wind chill below zero and winds of up to 40 miles per hour. Two residence halls were impacted.
The architecture of Northern Kentucky University might not immediately strike everyone as beautiful. In fact, most people might consider it unattractive or downright ugly, when most of the campus buildings are unpainted concrete constructs shaped like boxes, dripping with unseemly water streaks in the rain and crawled over with bony leafless vines in the cold..
