Feinberg and SQI award Kimberly Prize to Jennifer Doudna

The Feinberg School of Medicine and Simpson Querrey Institute for Epigenetics awarded their inaugural Kimberly Prize in Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics to biochemist Jennifer Doudna, Northwestern announced Sept. 14. Doudna, a professor at the University of California, Berkeley, co-developed CRISPR-Cas9, a technology that can alter DNA with significant precision. CRISPR holds promise for the treatment.

Global Systematic Risk Luncheon

September 8 PIIRS GSR Lunch Talk: "Goliath's Curse: Societal Collapse”," with Luke Kemp Thursday, September 8th, at noon, the PIIRS Global Systemic Risk research community will host Luke Kemp for a luncheon presentation and discussion on “Goliath’s Curse: A Brief History and Future of Societal Collapse.” A Research Associate at the Centre for the Study of Existential Risk (CSER) at the University of Cambridge, Kemp is a research collaborator within the Princeton Global Collaborative Network on “Historical Systemic Collapse.” He will discuss his work on a forthcoming book on societal collapse and transformation. The luncheon talk will be held in Room A71 of the Louis A. Simpson Building (20 Washington Road). All are welcome to attend. Democracy Besieged in Brazil's Bicentennial - Reflections on a Momentous Presidential Election

Followed by a reception in the Atrium of Louis A. Simpson. Miguel Lago is a political scientist and a Visiting Professor at Columbia University and at Sciences Po. Lago directs the Institute for Health Policy Studies (IEPS), a think-and-do-tank that advocates for the improvement of public policies in the Brazilian health sector. A political essayist, he is a frequent contributor to the magazine piauí and has recently authored Linguagem da Destruição (Language of Destruction), with Heloisa Starling and Newton Bignotto. Angela Alonso is Professor of Sociology at the University of São Paulo and former Director of CEBRAP, the Brazilian Center of Analysis and Planning.
