Jefferson Awards honor local volunteers

Jefferson Awards honor local volunteers FacebookTwitterEmail The Jefferson Awards recognize extraordinary service to the Capital Region community. (Special to the Times Union by Eric Jenks)Eric Jenks Thirteen local people are being honored as finalists for the Jefferson award this year for their extraordinary service to the community. For the second year in a row, the event will be virtual because of the pandemic. There will be no get-together where they will be feted. From helping children diagnosed with cancer and their families to helping refugees navigate their way in their new country to collecting used musical instruments for schoolchildren who cannot afford to buy them to making beds for children who do not have them, these volunteers have  spent countless hours pursuing causes to benefit others.

Courtesy Kay Jacobson Courtesy Kay Jacobson MANKATO — Longtime Katolight CEO Lyle Jacobson guided the Mankato-based company as it grew into a major source of diesel generators. And after the family-owned business was sold, his attention turned to providing a financial spark for the development of a downtown children’s museum and funding community charities. Jacobson died Tuesday. He was 79. “Lyle ran his company in an extremely fair way. He was a really nice guy. Lots of people lost a really good friend — the community lost a really good friend, too,” said Randy Berkland, of Mankato.

The midfielder played every minute for Celtic last month as they picked up maximum points from four games. This included a 1-0 win over Rangers and a 6-2 hammering of Robertson’s former club, Hibernian. Robertson scored a goal of the season contender in their victory over Hibs and played a vital role in the middle of the park throughout November as her side bounced back from defeat to Glasgow City on the opening day of the season.
