Post-meeting form review analysis: Rosehill, May 22

Comments A competitive card at Rosehill on Saturday where Polly Grey produced the highlight taking out the Listed Lord Mayors Cup. The six-year-old mare is set to head to the Gold Coast where she will be sold on Tuesday at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale but should Saturday’s contest have been her swansong, she ended her career adding another $76,500 to her career earnings. There were a couple of outstanding performances on Saturday – Charleise, Rebel Rama and Kirwan’s Lane while two runners-up were also excellent in defeat – Maranoa and Ellsberg. The track was rated a soft (5) surface throughout the day and it appeared favourable to race near the speed and save ground, back towards the inside coming into the straight.

Weight no worry for in-form Waller mare

Weight no worry for in-form Waller mare Tommy Berry pilots Polly Grey to back-to-back wins after taking out the Lord Mayors Cup. Picture: Mark Evans/Getty Images By Matt Jones Comments Throw more weight at Polly Grey and she still keeps winning. The Chris Waller-trained mare took out the Rosehill feature, the Listed Lord Mayors Cup, with an extra 3.5kg on her back after her Gosford Cup triumph two week earlier. Over 2000m, that weight really makes a difference most of the time but the grey mare didn’t race like she received a penalty. “It’s really tough to do,” said Waller’s racing manager and assistant trainer Charlie Duckworth.

Weight no worry for in-form Waller mare Polly Grey in Lord Mayors Cup

Lord Mayors Cup: Extra weight no worry for in-form mare Polly Grey by Matt Jones Throw more weight at Polly Grey and she still keeps winning. “You don’t like harping on about mares in form too much but once they find that rhythm they seem to keep thriving and it doesn’t affect them when they’re getting more weight.
