Popular events at the parks will be returning including the concert series “Broome Bands Together”, movie nights at Otsiningo Park and the Broome County Parks 5K Series.

Broome County officials expect the beaches at Greenwood Park in Lisle to reopen this weekend after being shut down as a protective measure due to an algae bloom.
Algae blooms occur naturally in lakes and are influenced by weather and rainfall.
The algae bloom at Greenwood Park has already dissipated, according to Liz Woidt, Director of Parks, Recreation, and Youth Services for Broome County.
Algae blooms can last for hours, weeks, or months, but since it s already gone, the health department will test the water Friday and the beach could be ready this weekend. We followed the health department procedure, which is once it is cleared and dissipated and we don t see it, that starts the 24-hour clock and then the health department will come and check the water, said Woidt.

After being forced to drastically limit operations and cancel programs last year due to the pandemic, the county s parks are open for the season with all the amenities including boat rentals, family camping, pavilion rentals and concessions.

Woidt says they are now announcing a new series of family programs in conjunction with Cornell Cooperative Extension and the Finch Hollow Nature Center that will be held at Finch Hollow as well several of the Broome County Parks. Woidt says families can enjoy the Weeks Without Walls programs like nature walks, a pond safari , a guided canoe/kayak paddle and even frog jumping competitions this summer.
