Story on Gender Identity Leads the Way in Fox Cities Reads Festival

By Casey Nelson Jan 27, 2021 9:35 PM LITTLE CHUTE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) The Fox Cities Book festival is encouraging everyone in the community to participate in the 2021 Fox Cities Reads. This year’s book is “George,” by Alex Gino. The novel was specifically requested by a young community member. The book follows George, whom everyone sees as a boy but who secretly knows she’s a girl, and her struggles with her identity in middle school. Copies are available at local libraries, for people to read and join in the discussion. “We’re definitely hoping to open up conversations and help people feel more connected to each other. In general, that’s the concept of even book clubs, is that books can open up the deep conversations and help, you know, you’re not alone and open up conversations that you typically wouldn’t have,” said Aubrey Laux, programming librarian at the Little Chute Public Library.
