Nearly 170 people joined a virtual court hearing for Ernst “Shimmy” Jean-Jacques, the Black Lives Matter protester arrested at a rally in Swampscott and charged with hitting an elderly Trump supporter.
Jean-Jacques’ supporters hoped the case would be thrown out, but it was continued until March 29.
“We’re extremely disappointed that the decision to drop the charges was not made today,” said Swampscott Keiko Zoll, one of dozens of residents supporting Jean-Jacques.
A civil rights activist honored by the Red Sox, Jean-Jacques joined BLM supporters at a Trump rally in December when Linda Greenberg, 80, admitted throwing water at him claiming he was dancing too close to her.

The proponents of the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact say that they are supporting democracy and fairness. In fact, the result of their proposal would be quite the opposite.
The Compact would make changes the U.S. Constitution forbids. It would weaken the Electoral College and undermine our federal system of independent states as well as our representative democracy.
The U.S. Constitution provides for change through an amendment process. According to the U.S. Constitution, states may not enter compacts without the consent of Congress. The National Popular Vote does not ask for the consent of Congress (Article 1, Section 10).
