africa knew desmond tutu as a friend and mentor and he joins me now. patrick, i am so glad you made time to talk to us tonight.m obviously the man was an absolute legend. a sort of moral force, an icon. you actually knew him and got to see up close what he was like ik and what his influence on south africa and the world was like.ss chris, thank you for having me on and for pushing this legacy forward. i think sometimes we have a poor grasp of history and it is extraordinary to appreciate this all happened in our life times. you just showed a photograph ofl archbishop tutu standing in new york in front of new york city s city hall with a congressman. i was at that rally in 1985.on i was 18, 19 years old. that is when archbishop tutu came to the u.s. to call on us to move beyond our policy of constructive engagement with the
