Mumbai: Police book building owner, occupant and others in connection with Currey Road fire which killed one

The blaze had erupted on the 19th floor of the One Avighna Park building around 11.45 am on Friday. The fire brigade had categorised it as Level-4 (major) fire. Arun Tiwari, a 30-year-old security guard of the building, had got trapped in a flat on that floor and in order to save himself, he held on to the railing of the flat's balcony for some time before falling to death. ....

Maharashtra: Virar hospital authorities knew fire could break out but did nothing, says chargesheet | Mumbai News


A fire in the second floor ICU of Vijay hospital in Virar killed 15 Covid patients and injured 3 on 23 April.
MUMBAI: The Arnala police last week filed a chargesheet against the owners and directors of the 90-bed Vijay Vallabh hospital in Virar where a fire in the intensive care unit (ICU) caused by a blast in the air-conditioner had killed 15 Covid-19 patients and injured three in the early hours of April 23. The chargesheet stated that the accused knew there could be a fire incident but took no steps.
The chargesheet, filed in the Vasai sessions court, has named hospital owners Bastimal Shah, his son, chief executive officer Dr Dilip Shah (56), and chief administrative officer Dr Shailesh Pathak (47) under Section 304 of the Indian Penal Code for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. Dr Shah and Dr Pathak, who were arrested on April 25, are out on bail. Bastimal, a senior citizen, was not arrested due to the pandemic. No other medical staff of the hospital was book ....

After the recent hospital fires in Bhandup and Virar which killed several COVID-19 patients, NCP MP Supriya Sule has written a letter to Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray urging him to craft a fire prevention and control policy.
For the uninitiated, 11 patients died in the fire that broke out on March 25 in a Bhandup based hospital. Later in a fire that broke out at the intensive care unit of a private hospital in Virar killed 15 COVID-19 patients.
Thus, the NCP MP took to Twitter and posted the letter with the caption - The recent incidents of fire in hospitals have resulted in the loss of life and damage to property. Hon.
