When i started this book i couldnt have anticipated that part of it. I was drawn to this story because i wanted to understand what happened in 1986, this epic fire that closed the la library for twee 7 years but more importantly i wanted to understand why i cared about it so much. I often said if someone said to me city hall burns down i would have thought that is too bad and i assume they will rebuild it but hearing the library had burned felt like a deep, profoundly personal loss and i felt why do we feel such a connection to books . Called for a federal investigation, after a grand jury declined to indict the officer. Investigators say ambrose ran from police, despite their calls for him to stop. Prosecutors say ambrose had a gun, but tosssed it as he was running. The officer chasing him said he didnt see that and opened fire. As part of this settlement, the city and the Police Officers involved, admit no wrongdoing. To write about the comanches in the great plains which is as far from connecticut as the frozen moons of jupiter. I will not bore you with the details of my past but to put it as briefly as possible i had my little epiphany in the spring of 1970. I had just been admitted to Princeton University and i was traveling there for a weekend where you see if you want to go there. It was a glorious day. Kind of like this morning actually. The spring was in full bloom per full bloom. I had taken a train and the last leg was on a smaller train which was the princeton to Princeton Junction that took the right to the campus. On the trip, i happened to be reading a book by f. Scott fitzgerald called this side of paradise. It was about life in princeton. At the time, it was absolutely magical. I happened to finish it as the train was pulling into the station. It is cute as a button.
