Leelanau Township Library Summer Writer's Series Concludes Tuesday Night

9 & 10 News July 27, 2021 Over the last month, four local authors have presented and discussed their work with local community members. Tuesday’s author, Anne-Marie Oomen, shared her latest work “Elemental,” a compilation of essays showing the wide variety of Michigan voices across the state. Oomen says the Leelanau community always have a deep appreciation for art and writing, and loves to engage with them. “It’s a rich audience, they’ve nurtured it here and it’s really a good thing culturally and socially for the community,” said Oomen. “And especially now coming out of the pandemic, a return to this kind of cultural focus is kind of important for all of us.”

Nancy Giles, Detroit psychologist known for her community commitment, dies at 82 View Comments Former Detroit psychologist Nancy Giles, known for her commitment to her community and for caring deeply about people, died Thursday, July 8, 2021, in the Traverse City area. She died of cerebral amyloid angiopathy, her family said. Dr. Giles, who was 82, was born Nancy May Morgan in Cleveland on Aug. 29, 1938. She watched her mother work her way up from being a cafeteria worker to becoming an executive secretary, a path that served as a model for the kind of dreams one could fulfill if they worked hard, said her husband, Bob Giles, a former editor and publisher of The Detroit News.
