Reporter the Police Department is taking steps to ensure this tragedy doesnt happen again and they are hoping other departments can learn from them. It was a Citizens Academy that went entirely wrong after officer lee coel accidentally fired shots at Mary Knowlton during a training exercise, killing her. Now, the department has changed its policies. From now on, Citizens Academys will no longer use guns capable of firing live ammunition. Also, all guns stored in an armory that can only be accessed by specialized officers and a Safety Officer must be present with a first aid kit during future academies.
