Good morning. Happening right now, tensions are es escalating on College Campuses across the country. We saw clashes in madison, wisconsin. Joining us now, cat carol, managing editor at the badger harold, joining us from the University Of Wisconsin campus. Good morning. What happened there this morning and what is it like right now . Good morning, thank you for having me. Around 7 15 this morning, police officers, Law Enforcement from the university police, the Wisconsin State Patrol and state and county and Madison Police that the encampment would be taken down and they remained on site until about 9 00 a. M. They left all tents. They left tables up with supplies and water for protesters. All tents were removed. Over a dozen individuals were arrested. And the police have left, some Campus Police are patrolling the area, but there are a couple of tents that have gone back up since police left. And so, cat, this when did this intensify. I understand that a lot of those students and the
Order probably this week i suspect. the court stepped in yet again and took over yet again the work of what the district court did and said, wait a minute, we re going to stop this and let this law go into effect. and i really cannot stress enough how truly just shocking it is to me that the supreme court let this law go into effect. under the court s current precedent, six-week abortion bans are patently unconstitutional. there s no federal appeals court that has upheld one of these laws. so what the district court did and i m clear on it being unconstitutional. but i want to go back to the ruling earlier this week that briefly blocked the texas law from going into effect. the federal judge in that decision put out a 100-page ruling with some important legal insights. i understand you read that ruling yourself. what was the biggest takeaways
I mean, it s nothing but bad news for women of texas, and women everywhere. i hesitate to sum it up this way, in a colloquial way, but basically we re screwed. that s just true. the fifth circuit has reinstated this law. that s isn t overturning of roe v. wade, the takes away women s right to control her own body, two weeks after she s missed a period. most women don t know they re pregnant at that time. and now it s up to the fifth circuit, people say oh not to worry, it can be appealed at the supreme court. will it can be appealed at the supreme court, but remember it s a supreme court that let this law go into effect in the first. place through a shadow docket, late at night, without even mentioning roe v. wade. the supreme court is extremely hostile to roe v. wade, they have five votes to overturn it. they have a case in front of them, the mississippi dogs case, and it looks like they re either gonna overturn roe v.
The court knew it. they were letting this law go into effect, this bizarre vigilante law that wasn t about fetal viability. it wasn t about mississippi s law at 15 weekends. weeks. it was six weeks. and by the way, there are many states that are ready to take it back to fertilization. in terms of when a woman can be regulated and i got to tell you, my favorite sign over the weekends, since they re going to have a gun case too, there were so many many good signs. my favorite sign over the weekend was, if my uterus could shoot bullets, they wouldn t regulate it. that s the truth. claire, i go back to that day after trump s inauguration because i think the women s marches were precursor to democrats success in the midterms and i think it s what president joe biden s chain built on for his success in the general. but i think the court is such it is so out of whack and i wonder where you think the
