According to a sheriff’s report, the deputy responded to 32-year-old Heather R. Crossen’s home for a welfare check after an acquaintance of Crossen’s reported she sent him a text message that concerned him during the early evening Nov. 26.
According to a complaint that the sheriff’s office filed in Portage County Municipal Court in Ravenna, while the deputy was at the home, Crossen allegedly tried to grab a knife from a butcher’s block to attack him with it. No injuries were reported and Crossen was arrested and taken to Portage County Jail.
Crossen pleaded guilty Feb. 18 to third-degree felony attempted assault and first-degree misdemeanor child endangerment involving a 2-year-old girl in the home, according to court records. The felony charge was amended down from first-degree felony assault as part of a plea deal.

Chemistry teacher Heidi Hallstein pleaded guilty to charges of gross sexual imposition and unlawful sexual conduct with a minor.

Hallstein was sentenced to 180 days in jail and four years probation, along with registering as a sex offender for 25 years.
The judge told her there would be “no second chances” if she offended again.
“I’m sorry. I crossed the line,” Hallstein told the court.
The former educator’s plea comes months after the teacher’s arrest in August when investigators accused Hallstein of engaging in sexual conduct with a minor student of
Hudson High School, where she taught chemistry in January 2017.
The abuse took place at Hallstein’s home where she then lived on West College Avenue and not on school grounds, officials said.
