kevin: thanks, krutis. dangerous conditions for a lot of drivers tonight. stacey: ryan smith is live near altoona. ryan: the roads behind us near the flying j truck stop in altoona. drivers must remain cautious if they are on the road. like most places across the metro, if you have had your car sitting out for even a half hour, there are gobs of snow to clear up. i am measuring 4-5 inches on this car outside the flying j. snow is building up on both commercial roads and along the interstate. let s go to some video we shot not long ago. out on interstate 80 in altoona, drivers are moving cautiously with minimal traffic around the 9:00-10:00 hour tonight. also, a few stalled vehicles on the interstate. we spotted one car that had spun around completely facing , eastbound in the westbound lane, near exit 141. vehicles that haven t been moved now buried under a thick blanket of snow. we caught up with one driver, just before venturing out into the first snow storm in a new car. r

there is the day planner today, flurries moving off to the east today. more sunshine by noon. look at that wind chill, 3:00, 13 degrees. the coldest temperatures since march. alyx: thank you, frank. lots of snow across the metro and central iowa throughout the night. although the snow is tapering off this morning, we still advise you to take it slow out there. one of our producers spotted 14 cars in the ditch off of off interstate 35, just north of the metro. many of those cars will still be in the ditches this morning, so we have a crew driving around this morning and they spotted snowplows cleaning up side streets in des moines and surrounding parts of the metro. good. the wind may shift him snow and start to cover areas again, so this is a look at road conditions across state. most of the state is in pink, which means the roads are completely covered. in cedar falls and waterloo the roads are purple, meaning travel is not advised. please take a look at 511ia.org a for the
