Area Softball Teams Have Playoff Success Many Hill County area high school softball teams advanced to the next round of the UIL State Championships last week. In Class 1A, the Abbott Lady Panthers beat Coolidge 16-3 and will now face Dodd City. The regional quarterfinal will be played at 7 p.m. Saturday May 8, in Sunnyvale. Blum earned a bye week in round one and will play Perrin/Whitt at 5 p.m. Thursday, May 6, at Crowley High School. Hubbard advanced with a forfeit by Gholson. The Lady Jaguars will play Ector at 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 7, at Emory Rains High School in Emory.
The Class 2A No. 23 Tippecanoe Valley Lady Vikings softball team came from behind in the top of the seventh and defeated Rochester 7-5 during Mondayâs Three Rivers Conference game.
Valleyâs Mercedes Snapp came to the plate with two runners on base and one out in the seventh. Snapp came up clutch for Valley and hit a RBI double to Watson in left field, which scored both Molly Moriarty and Corinna Stiles. Before her at-bat, she had gone 0-for-3 at the plate with two strikeouts and was robbed of a home run by Rochesterâs Kallie Watson.
After Snapp scored the go-ahead run, Macy Kirchenstien singled to left and scored Snapp to take a 7-5 lead going into the bottom of the seventh.
