History looking at Winston Churchill and his influence on world affairs. Mr. Johnson, now british Prime Minister himself, was mayor of london at the time he spoke at the prose bookstore in washington, d. C. , in 2014. But now on to the main event. I just want to say how delighted we are to have the mayor of london, Boris Johnson, with us tonight. Of course, hell be discussing his new book the churchill factor how one man made history. The writing and publication was meant to coincide with the 50th anniversary of churchills death which will be marked in january of this coming year. And, as youll hear tonight, the anniversary gave our author the opportunity to reintroduce, actually maybe introduce, Winston Churchill to a Younger Generation who had no experience of one of the most important political figures and one of the worlds most important political figures. And that might be surprising given that i think there are about 100 books that have already been written about churchill. Mr. M
have everybody here tonight. it s a great crowd and i it feels like just kind of a festive light atmosphere and i m glad. we ve got a great presentation for you tonight. my name is steve weberg, i work in the public affairs department here at the library and it s going to be my honor here to introduce a guy i ve gotten to know and really come to admire a lot here in the past few months working with him. some of you may already have been through our new exhibit open just under two weeks ago on the second floor in the mountain gallery called cowboys and culture. if you haven t, i would strongly urge you to. it s just a fascinating collection, and i m talking about a large collection, of artifacts, art and other objects that illuminate the connection that i wasn t aware of down through history going back to the cattle days between city of kansas city and amarillo, texas. it s so big, in fact, part of it spilled out into kirk hall down in the first floor, you may have seen the
[ inaudible conversations ] house and senate republican leaders are gathering for an enrollment ceremony for the tax reform bill. paul ryan and mitch mcconnell officially signed that legislation and sent it to the white house for president trump s signature.
