PROVIDENCE â When the going gets tough, Julia Broome knows people turn to comfort food. Thereâs no shortage of dishes she could whip up. Itâs more about picking which of the recipes that had been ingrained in her growing up that make the choices endless: Shrimp poâboy. Jambalaya. Grits. Collard greens.
Restaurant openings in Rhode Island have not slowed, pandemic or not.
Four brand new ones are getting ready to open in coming weeks and months. Plus new owners have bought a 20-year-old cafe and bakery that they will reopen in March.
The new businesses include a downtown Providence soul food restaurant, a bistro from three friends including the executive chef at Capital Grille, a Spanish eatery from the owners of Bacaro and a Warren restaurant with a low country menu.
The Village Hearth Bakery and Cafe in Jamestown has new owners, a couple who have relocated from Atlanta.
Each of the four new restaurants replace ones that have closed, three in 2020.
